Make sure you get the most out of your ski holiday.

1. Get fit (or fitter!). Those leg muscles are going to get pretty tired, so start getting them prepared. Start working out at least 2 months prior. Pilates will help you with balance and core strength, balance boards and inline skates will also help with balance, and sports like footy and squash that demand quick movement changes will also help.

2.  Get a service. For your ski equipment that is – if you have your own. Get a professional to check the bindings are safe, wax is applied and edges are sharpened. But if you’re renting when you get there, you may want to organise this before you depart.

3.  Get yourself a good ski suit.  It may mean the difference between having a great day in the snow, or being uncomfortable and heading back to the hotel before lunch.

4.  Decide where you want to stay – ski-in ski-out or off-piste. You will normally pay a premium for ski-in ski-out properties, but if you don’t fancy carrying your skis, boots and poles to the bus stop, or loading into the car each day, ski-in ski-out accommodation is best. You can always easily pop back to the hotel when you need a break too.

5.  Think about getting a group together.  A ski trip is perfect for a group of friends – more people to buddy up with and ski lodge night entertainment is more fun with a crowd. There also tends to be good apartment-style accommodation around ski fields.

6. Book early.  Every ski field just about everywhere books out months ahead for peak ski season.
