World’s Hottest New Hotels

The travel landscape is always changing, with new hotels opening, old hotels receiving grand makeovers, and some being transformed into completely new resort destinations. 1. Jackalope Hotel, Mornington Peninsula, Australia. Winning 3 awards including New Hotel of the Year in the Gourmet Traveller Hotel Awards 2017, Jackalope has created a destination not to be missed. Incorporating 46 rooms in a restored 143 year old homestead located in a working winery, the resort pairs art with hospitality.

2. OBLU Select at Sangeli, Maldives. Opening in June 2018, this Deluxe 4 star resort offers as standard an All Inclusive package that includes not just food and drinks, but excursions, mini bar and kids club as well.

3. Six Senses Bhutan. This unique luxury resort is planning to open in August 2018. The hotel is actually made up of 5 separate lodges across Bhutan, each one with its own theme. You lodge-hop your way across the country! We expect it will live up to the usual high standard of the Six Senses brand.

4. W Las Vegas, USA. It’s surprising there hasn’t been a W hotel in Las Vegas before now. But as of March this year, W has hit The Strip and is quickly gaining a reputation for having the best cocktails in town and extremely fashionable rooms. Try the WOW Suite – designed by Lenny Kravitz.

5. Nobu Hotel Shoreditch London, England. This is chef Nobu Matsuhisa’s fifth hotel, which opened in July 2017. The hotel is modern and designed with good feng shui, very minimalist, and of course has top notch dining.

6. Westin Nanea Ocean Villas, Maui, Hawaii. This oceanfront property offers great options for families or groups with villas up to 3 bedrooms available.

7. EDITION Barcelona, Spain. EDITION hotels are the latest boutique offering from the Marriott chain. Taking up a fantastic location next to the Santa Caterina Market, this promises to be the hot new hotel in Barcelona. An opening date has not yet been set.

8. Amanyanguyn Shanghai, China. The Aman boutique brand has just opened this incredible hotel set in Qing and Ming Dynasty dwellings. The Spa is primary feature of the property, housed in a relocated forest of sacred camphor trees.

9. COMO Uma Canggu, Bali. Having just opened its doors, this new resort has a strong focus on surfing with inhouse surfing coaches and an architectural design that mimics the curves of the ocean.

10. Hotel Lutetia Paris, France. This is an extensive refurb of a much-loved hotel. After 4 years, the hotel is set to reopen next month with a 3 Michelin-starred chef running the Brasserie.

11. Fingal Royal Yacht Britannia Edinburgh, Scotland. This luxury floating hotel is berthed at The Shore. The hotel is a re-purposed former yacht of Queen Elizabeth II. The design is a plush flashback to the roaring 20s. Opening date to be advised.

12. Conrad Bora Bora Nui, Tahiti. After more than a year and a half of being closed for renovations, this hotel has undergone a dramatic transformation. The overwater bungalows are stunning and there’s the new addition of two-storey overwater villas, perfect for families.

13. Rosewood Hong Kong, China. Opening on the Victoria Harborfront sometime in 2018, this hotel is slated to be an ‘ultra-luxury’ hotel.

14. The Tasman Hobart, Australia. This will be a Marriott Luxury Collection Hotel built in the former Saint Mary’s Hospital. The local heritage of the building will be retained, and local artists have been commissioned to provide the works of art.

15. Alvear Icon Hotel & Residences Buenos Aires, Argentina. This refined hotel with Art Deco touches in the Puerto Madero is a rare new addition to Buenos Aires. Particularly unusual for its two story Spa, great staff and two pools.

16. Shangri-La Hotel Colombo, Sri Lanka. This bright and breezy hotel is opposite the historic Galle Face Green and has stunning ocean views.

17. Casa Cook Kos, Greece. This beachfront property mirrors a traditional whitewashed Greek village, but the rooms are hip and trendy with all the mod cons. Hang out at the pool listening to chilled music and take a yoga class on the terrace.

18. One&Only Le Saint Geran, Mauritius. This was the first ever 5 star resort in Mauritius. It closed for renovation last year and has reopened as a modern, relaxed, luxury retreat.

19. SLS Baha Mar, Nassau Bahamas. Part of the Baha Mar $4.2 billion resort, SLS is contemporary with a touch of vintage, and extremely stylish. With pristine beachfront on your doorstep, superb cocktails and the famous Katsuya restaurant, this resort is a must-visit.

20. Trunk (Hotel) Tokyo, Japan. Opening last year in a small laneway between Shibuya and Harajuku, this 15 room hotel is modern with touches of retro style and offers regular pop-up stores selling local fare.
